Authenticated by Slow Food U.S.A.
A uniquely American turkey, the authentic
Heritage Turkey is the turkey that our forefathers knew and
cherished. The Narragansett, the oldest United States turkey
variety, and the Bourbon Red were placed on the Slow Food U.S.A.
“Ark of Taste” in 2001 to prevent their imminent disappearance
from the American table.
Authentic Heritage turkeys have a richly
flavored meat, succulent and juicy, and they are naturally well
proportioned, which means they have a larger quantity of flavorful
dark meat. The meat has a uniquely firm texture. The excellent
flavor of the authentic Heritage turkeys is a result of their
lifestyle: they roam in the fresh air outside and are fed a high
protein diet. They can fly and breed naturally. The combination of
their diet and the exercise opportunity produce a lean and tasty
turkey – all natural and naturally delicious.
Mary’s Air-Chilled Heritage Turkeys are cooled with a state of
the art “Air-Chilled” system. Air Chill helps inhibit the
likelihood of bacteria growth by keeping all the turkeys
independent. The Air-Chilled system conserves over 30,000 gallons
of water every day! By not adding water, the turkey stays fresh
longer. Taste the Difference!!!
Art of Taste" Saving Endangered Foods
Just as Noah's Ark was created to preserve
animal species, the Slow Food U.S.A. "Ark of Taste" was created to
ensure the survival of near-extinct foods. The Narragansett,
the oldest United States turkey variety, and the Bourbon Red were
placed on the Slow Food U.S.A. "Ark of Taste" in 2001 to prevent
their disappearance from the American table.
The "Heritage Turkey Project" is a joint effort
of Slow Food U.S.A., small farmers who agreed to raise these special
native birds and ecologically-sensitive consumers who crave an all-natural
exquisite tasting experience.
